Defeating a Wiggler in the Super Mario franchise depends entirely on whether you are playing a traditional 2D side-scroller or facing one as a 3D world boss. Standard jumps do not defeat regular Wigglers; instead, stomping on them knocks off their head flower, turning them red, angry, and much faster.

Here is how to defeat them across different styles of gameplay.

2D Side-Scrollers (e.g., Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros.)

Regular jumps will only anger them, so you must use alternative methods to clear them from the map:

Power-Ups: Run through them while powered up by a Super Star (Starman).

Thrown Objects: Toss a Koopa Shell, Galoomba, or Grab Block directly at them. Yoshi: Have Yoshi eat them entirely.

Ground Pounds: In newer 2D games, performing a Ground Pound will temporarily stun and flip them over. Super Mario 64 (Tiny-Huge Island Boss)

To defeat the Wiggler boss in its cave on Tiny-Huge Island, you must stomp on its head three times.

Access the cave by ground-pounding the pool at the top of Tiny Island to drain the water, then shift to Huge Island to fall through the newly opened hole.

Jump directly onto Wiggler’s head. Bouncing on body segments will not cause damage.

Anticipate increased speed; after each hit, Wiggler moves faster, charges, and begins jumping wildly. Stay in motion to avoid getting hit.
